COSTA MESA, Calif.--SYSPRO, a leading producer of enterprise software, said that its software is boosting the visibility, planning and costing accuracy of manufacturers through the ability to track co-products and by-products.
Co-products are products that are typically manufactured together (or sequentially) due to product or process similarities. By-products refer to secondary materials of value that are produced from the primary production process. By providing the ability to track and cost both co-products and by-products, SYSPRO said it is now providing manufacturers with even greater insight into their operations.
SYSPRO software accommodates the manufacture of co-products by enabling them to be configured and manufactured as multiple items against a single Bill of Materials. The accurate tracking of costs is facilitated by enabling components and operations to be simply proportioned against co-products according to a percentage breakdown for the entire material, operation and subcontract costs. A more complex distribution of costs can be applied, whereby the percentage of each component and operation is defined per co-product. This flexibility ensures accurate costing for each co-product, which has traditionally proved to be a problem for manufacturers.
Furthermore, SYSPRO software provides additional flexibility by enabling co-products to be billed as: Sequential (i.e., co-products can be completed before the entire job is completed); Concurrent (i.e., all co-products are manufactured at the same time and are receipted in at the end of the job); Multi-grade for costing purposes; and Proportional (i.e., there is a marked size difference between the various co-products which is indicated by a percentage.)
SYSPRO software facilitates the tracking of by-products by accurately representing the quantity as a supply throughout the system. A manufacturer has the option of either receipting the by-product at the time of kit issuing the components to the job or operation (i.e., before the by-product is produced) or at the time of posting labor to the operation (i.e., when the by-product is produced.)
According to SYSPRO USA President Joey Benadretti, “SYSPRO caters to a number of different manufacturing environments, including food, medical devices, electronic components and machinery and equipment manufacture, where there is a requirement for the design, manufacture and planning of multiple items in a single manufacturing run. The ability to accommodate co- and by-products is another step by which SYSPRO software promotes greater efficiencies by these manufactures.”
